- ➤ Samuel Chavira was convicted Monday by an Ector County jury for first-degree murder after he shot his wife, Arely Sotelo Navarrette, whose body was found at their Layla Lane home on Jan. 8, 2022, and he received a 40-year sentence—his confession and a .22 caliber pistol found at the scene were key to the verdict.
