- ➤ The Ector County Sheriff's Office warned residents on May 6 about a scam involving a caller using a deputy’s name and the number 432-535-5393—officials stress that officers never call about warrants or jury duty and advise against sharing personal information. CBS7
- ➤ Samuel Chavira was convicted Monday by an Ector County jury for first-degree murder after he shot his wife, Arely Sotelo Navarrette, whose body was found at their Layla Lane home on Jan. 8, 2022, and he received a 40-year sentence—his confession and a .22 caliber pistol found at the scene were key to the verdict. - ➤ Texas health officials said West Texas has seen 702 measles cases in 29 counties — most in Gaines County where the outbreak began and two unvaccinated children died from measles-related illness.
