Guided Play for Beginners

About this event

Already taken an Intro to Mahjong Lesson and what to keep learning? Mahjong Guided Play is a great next step!

Guided Play is a less structured, supportive session where newer players can play full games with an experienced League Member. The session is intended to reinforce what you learned in your lesson, and provide a lower pressure setting to ask questions, clarify the rules, and reinforce proper etiquette.

Guided play bridges the gap between taking a beginner class and jumping into independent social play.

The format usually works like this:

• Live Coaching: You play your own hands, but the experienced League Member steps in to help you read your card, select a good hand, and navigate the "Charleston" passing phase.

• Rules Clarification: The experienced League Member helps you understand exactly when to call tiles, how to expose sets, and how to use jokers.

• Low-Pressure Setting: The environment is relaxed and supportive — mistakes are treated as learning moments!

Players are encouraged to bring their on NMJL card and tiles, but WTX Mahjong will provide if needed.

Sessions must have 3 players signed up to be held, and will be cancelled if the minimum is not reached. Sessions are also subject to adjustment based on needs for store events.
