COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ This week, an Adoption Event at the Ector County Coliseum is scheduled on Friday with a $27 cash fee and on Saturday, Odessa Beautiful’s Texas Recycles Day and Basin Action Day will help keep our city clean. Mark your calendars—Parks & Recreation’s Take Me Fishing event will be held on November 22, city offices will close for Thanksgiving on November 27/28, and the Helping Hands Community Lawn Care Program will continue through the month. - ➤ The Salvation Army of Midland/Odessa is asking for volunteers to support its Red Kettle campaign and Angel Tree program to help local families this holiday season. Bell ringers are needed through December 23 and Angel Tree helpers through December 19 with sign-ups available by contacting Mikell McLaughlin at 432-528-4352 (locations at 600 E Wall Street in Midland and 810 E 11th Street in Odessa). ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Residents near E. Jefferson Avenue and E. Second Street noticed a science well drilling while the owner collects geological samples to check for oil and gas under downtown Odessa. City officials noted that if commercially viable reserves are found, potential revenue could help offset property taxes and fund local needs (the drilling will last about two months). CBS7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Odessa College is hosting the 2025 College & Community Career Fair today from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Wood Health Sciences Building—Community Room 201, where veterans have a special hour from 3:00 to 4:00 to meet local employers and all attendees can receive free gifts and enter a prize drawing. - ➤ Landgraf, Crutcher and Associates donated $250,000 to UTPB's civil engineering program to fund scholarships, recruit faculty and buy equipment—efforts aimed at expanding the program and meeting local engineering needs in the Permian Basin. CBS7

- ➤ Veteran Gunnery Sergeant Christoph Anthony Peppermuller, who enlisted right after high school, reflected on service and brotherhood as Marines celebrated their 250th anniversary on November 10 in Philadelphia. Veterans from VFW Post 4372 joined others in Imperial to honor the historic milestone—he said the lifelong bond among Marines shows their commitment. CBS7
- ➤ The Odessa Police Department held its annual awards and promotional ceremony at Odessa College where officers, civilian employees, and community members were recognized for their service—five officers were promoted and multiple awards were given for achievements such as Detective and Patrol Officer of the Year. The ceremony honored exceptional performance through specialized recognitions including Citizen’s Certificates and Meritorious Conduct Awards. CBS7
