COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ City Bank’s Community Reward has opened registration for nonprofit organizations in the Permian Basin to compete for $60,000 in awards during its sixth year — nonprofits can register in one of six categories, submit entries by October 30 for early $500 prizes, and will have registration close on November 6 with voting starting on November 10. This program will award prizes in a random drawing for early submissions before the final vote. CBS7
- ➤ Odessa has several events this week: a city council meeting is held today at 5:00 p.m. and Keep Odessa Beautiful’s Recycle Fashion Show will run on Friday, while Saturday features two fall events at McKinney Park from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.-a Fall Fest Car Show by Discover Odessa and a Fall Festival by Bronco Wild Day. The Odessa Animal Service will hold a spay and neuter clinic on October 20 with registration closing October 15, and ongoing campus cleanup and community lawn care programs continue this month. CBS7
- ➤ Basin PBS is collecting donated Halloween costumes for children, and drop-offs will be accepted from Monday until Oct. 24 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). NewsWest9

- ➤ Odessa artist Gina Bernal, a mother of four, is a quarterfinalist in a national Face of Halloween contest that benefits the Starlight Children's Foundation—she said the contest fuels her creativity while she balances a full-time job and raising her children. - ➤ The ninth annual Permian Basin Recycle Fashion Show is scheduled for Friday, October 17 (7:00 P.M.) at the Odessa Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Keep Odessa Beautiful and other partners have invited designers of all ages and experience levels to create and showcase outfits made entirely from recycled materials with tickets that include a three-course meal, live music, a silent auction and seating for the event. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Midland College and Diamondback Energy launched a mentorship program on October 13 that connects industry professionals with over 160 students to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world work in instrumentation and electrical fields for the Permian Basin's oil and gas industry. The program will hold monthly sessions—featuring hands-on lab projects and one-on-one guidance—that build a skilled workforce for the region. CBS7

- ➤ Midland County Drug Court celebrated its seventh anniversary by using a 14-month treatment plan that helped 2,500 drug offenders avoid jail—graduates now work to help others get on the right track. CBS7
- ➤ The Odessa Police Department is offering its free CRASE course to teach businesses, churches, and schools how to react in active shooter and other emergency events using simple run, hide, fight steps and real-life examples. Local groups can contact OPD to schedule a session and learn life-saving techniques. CBS7
- ➤ Tomorrow, E. Martin Luther King Jr. St. from S. Muskingum Ave. to Simms St. will be closed for a utilities installation project by Edgardo Madrid and Associates in partnership with the City of Odesa—motorists should follow traffic signs and use detours to avoid delays. CBS7

- ➤ The Permian Basin Great 25 Nurses Board announced the 25 nurses chosen for the Class of 2025—each recognized for their hard work and dedication to patient care. The group earned this honor from both colleagues and the local community. CBS7
- ➤ Medical Center Hospital will host its 3rd Annual Wave of Light memorial service on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the fountain in front of the MCH Center for Women & Infants on the campus & families who have experienced infant or pregnancy loss are invited to light candles following a prayer and moment of silence while support groups are on site.
