- ➤ UTPB will host STEAMFEST on October 11 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Science and Technology Building—where visitors will enjoy interactive exhibits, a day in the life of an astronomer and astronaut, and space-themed arts and crafts. CBS7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On September 17, Odessa City Council raised property taxes by 0.0004 as part of an approved budget—city leaders insist the new state law on audits is not retroactive. Mayor Cal Hendrick warned that if Attorney General Ken Paxton enforces the law, reduced revenue may force cuts to essential services—roads, water, police, fire and trash—that keep the city running. - ➤ UTPB’s Mending Mental Gaps program held its first Odessa session on Monday, October 6 where veterans read books by fellow veterans, discussed service experiences, and spent time writing in journals—future sessions will run every Monday until November with another group meeting in Midland on Thursdays.
