- ➤ OPD is accepting registrations for National Night Out—an event that will take place on Tuesday, October 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. and gives neighbors a chance to meet local first responders before the registration deadline this weekend. City of Odessa
- ➤ The City of Odessa and local non-profit Odessa Links are raising awareness about the growing homeless population—235 unsheltered individuals were counted in the recent survey. Odessa Links will host a one and a half-mile awareness walk called Walk in the Shoes of the Unsheltered—while the city will mark National Homeless Day on October 11 to highlight community needs. CBS7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Schoolhouse Homeschooling visited the Odessa Police Department on October 2nd to tour key areas like Patrol, Crime Scene Unit, Dispatch, and SWAT — the visit gave homeschooled students a chance to ask questions and learn how local officers work to keep the community safe. City of Odessa
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Edgardo Madrid & Associates will work with the City on a water line replacement along Locust Ave from 42nd St to 46th St starting Monday, October 6. The project will close Alpine St, E. 43rd St and Douglas Dr and will close the far right lane on west-bound 42nd St while the City relocates dumpsters to maintain trash services. City of Odessa
- ➤ The Parks and Recreation Department is installing 44 new parking and entrance signs across city parks to improve navigation for visitors. City officials expect the signs to reduce traffic confusion and help drivers find spots faster. NewsWest9
- ➤ Yesterday, the City of Odessa received a letter from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that alleged a violation of SB 1851 (the letter did not include a formal complaint) and the city responded by providing statutes and legal opinions (including Texas Government Code Section 311.022) to support its stance. - ➤ District 2-6A volleyball standings show Midland Legacy is 25—11 with a 3—0 district record, Midland High is 27—8 with a 2—1 mark, and Odessa High is 15—16 with no district wins; Tuesday’s matches produced wins for San Angelo Central, Midland High, and Midland Legacy. - ➤ The Permian volleyball team will play Wolfforth Frenship at 5 p.m. today at Permian Fieldhouse— the Lady Panthers have a record of 25 wins and 8 losses after a three-set loss to San Angelo Central Tuesday.
