COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Legislative staffers, board members, and community leaders gathered at the West Texas Food Bank in Odessa — they discussed local food insecurity in the area.  NewsWest9
  • The Samaritan Center will celebrate winners at 6 p.m. on October 28 at Odessa Country Club—honoring the Clifton family as Midland Family of the Year, the Garriga family as Odessa Family of the Year, and the UT Permian Basin Behavioral Health Impact Program as Samaritan of the Year for advancing local support services.  Odessa American

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Odessa Municipal Court is seeking part-time judges with at least two years experience to help handle a rising juvenile caseload. The court currently has two full-time judges and three part-timers on jail dockets and will use the new appointments in its night court to speed up hearings for minors aged 10—14.  CBS7
  • Construction began Monday, September 22nd at the Grandview and Yukon Rd intersection as part of a public-private partnership with Leeco Properties—this project expands the intersection to 7 lanes with new signals, widened pavement, and closed free right-turn lanes during the first 5 weeks of its 195-day timeline. Drivers are advised to follow marked detours and allow extra travel time as work continues.  City of Odessa
  • City officials are clearing homeless camps at Old McMinn's Self Storage units in Odessa—neighbors express approval of the city's efforts to address the issue.  NewsWest9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medical Center Hospital and Texas Oncology will offer free prostate cancer screenings on Thursday, September 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Texas Oncology – Odessa West Texas Cancer Center for men aged 50 or for those under 50 with a family history, with a limited number of slots available and no fasting required.  CBS7
