  • On August 4th, the Odessa Police Department joined Basin Lighthouse's Community Take-Back Symposium to discuss resources for Permian Basin students facing substance abuse and mental health challenges. Community members shared actionable ideas such as facility tours and ride-alongs to help improve youth support—reflecting strong local collaboration.  City of Odessa
  • Private donors formed Spirit of West Texas to donate $5,000 per flood victim by calling (432) 316-7106, while Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis warned families to be alert for scammers. The donations honor victims of the hill country floods that claimed at least 108 lives and may reach far beyond the Permian Basin.  CBS7
  • On Monday, August 4, community volunteers at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church gave students free haircuts—along with backpacks, school supplies, vaccinations and fingerprinting—to help ease back-to-school costs. CRIME NEWS

  • A 40-year-old Odessa man was arrested Sunday night for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pointing a black .45 handgun at a bicyclist in an alley behind a house on Andrews Highway at 8:40 p.m.— his bail was set at $20,000 and his companion was arrested for evading arrest.  Odessa American

  • Tickets are available for a concert featuring Uncle Kracker and guest singer Bryce Leatherwood on Friday, August 22 at The Venue at Live Oak in Midland—Leatherwood, winner of Season 22 The Voice, will open the show at 8:00 p.m. and food trucks will serve guests on-site.  CBS7
