  • Brookdale Sherwood, a local senior living community, will host an appreciation breakfast — honoring first responders — on June 23 at 9 a.m. at 3939 E. 52nd St.  Odessa American

BUSINESS NEWS

  • F1 Bar & Grill opened its new brewery, Far Out Brewing, serving local Light Speed Blonde Ale and Stargazer American Wheat on the first day of summer and added a red ale on Friday. Head Brewer Christopher Tidwell, who got the federal license on June 17, said he improved the brewing process and that an IPA next week and chocolatey stouts this Fall will soon be on tap—customers can watch the brewing through the restaurant.  CBS7

CRIME NEWS

  • Odessa Police found a body near Jackie Rogge’s vehicle today in Winkler County — the unknown body will be sent to Lubbock for an autopsy while officers ask the public for help in finding Rogge, who was last seen driving a silver Jeep on Highway 302 on June 5.  CBS7
  • An Odessa man, Jonah Ray Huitron, 21, was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly dragged his girlfriend from a moving vehicle and fired multiple rounds at a DK gas station (in the 800 block of Golder Avenue) and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (and discharging a firearm within city limits).  NewsWest9

  • Melinda Vega, a veteran at Ector County ISD's School Nutrition Office, was named Employee of the Year after 15 years of rising from helper to administrative assistant. She fills in at campuses and handles payroll and accounts payable—earning praise from supervisors for her flexibility and strong work ethic.  Odessa American

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting June 23, a manhole replacement project will begin along 23rd Street from N. Hancock Avenue to N. Tom Green Avenue, with phases planned to last about five weeks—road and alley closures have been scheduled for June 23, June 30, July 7 and July 11, and drivers are urged to follow detours and traffic signs.   • At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Ector County Commissioners Court will consider items for the new courthouse project including a notice to proceed for the design-build team and an MOU with USPS, which will relocate the downtown post office to a new parking garage site—Judge Dustin Fawcett said demolition on properties east of the current post office will begin once the agreement is signed and a site for postal fleet operations is chosen within 60 days.  Odessa American
