  • Odessa Animal Shelter advises pet owners to keep their animals cool by providing water and shading during hot summer days—Taylor Mauricio noted the rise in heat-related illnesses and recommended walks during early morning or evening and indoor sheltering when away for long periods. Owners are urged to check on pets frequently and arrange boarding if traveling to ensure their safety.  CBS7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 9th at 12:00 p.m., a truck driver lost control and struck a stopped semi on Highway 158 near CR 1110—he died on scene while the semi driver remained unharmed and DPS is investigating the incident.  CBS7

CRIME NEWS

  • Monahans native Timothy Ontiveros, a Bloomfield police officer, died on June 1 from gunshot wounds sustained on May 26 while on duty, and his body is being escorted back to his hometown between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.—viewing will be held today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and his funeral service is set for June 12 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church.  NewsWest9
  • Odessa police are searching for three unknown female suspects who stole approximately $224 of merchandise from Crab Station and Oyster Bar and urge anyone who recognizes them to call Detective M. Troglin at 432-284-2012 (Case #25-0005811).  NewsWest9
  • Odessa Police Department is asking for public help to find Jackie Rogge, 67 — who was reported missing on June 7 and is known as a member of the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang.  NewsWest9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • IDEA Public Schools in the Permian Basin will invest nearly $1.8 million over fiscal years 2026 and 2027 in stipends, signing bonuses, and tuition reimbursements—such as $10,000 bonuses for eight new teachers—to recruit and support educators across its campuses. The plan includes mentor stipends, leadership roles, and a $1,034,550 grant from the Scharbauer Foundation finalized in March 2025.  Odessa American
