CRIME NEWS

  • A 30-year-old man allegedly threatened a woman with a knife at the intersection of Centergate Street and North Highway 385 on Sunday morning—she feared for her life and requested an emergency protective order before deputies booked him on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest.  NewsWest9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Miguel Campos, a senior at Odessa Collegiate Academy, was chosen as a Delegate at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, a three-day event at the University of Massachusetts from June 25 to June 27. He said he is excited to learn and grow as he prepares for a future as a neurosurgeon—meeting strict academic standards and drawing on hospital volunteer experience.  CBS7
  • BB-RISE has earned a Rural Pathway Excellence Partnership designation from the Texas Education Agency to help local schools work together on shared career training programs. It will team up with Odessa College, Sul Ross State University, and local industry leaders to offer free college credit, certifications, and hands-on training in fields like Business Management and Nursing Science—starting next school year.  Odessa American

  • Today, new city manager David Vela began his work in Odessa by meeting with media and local residents to listen to their needs (he also praised the united efforts of the city council).   • TxDOT began construction on June 2 at the intersection of 42nd Street and Grandview Avenue to repair concrete panels and repave asphalt for improved ride quality and safety — the work is part of a larger 42nd Street improvement plan expected to finish by late summer.
