- ➤ Reeves County deputies arrested 35-year-old Yuliesky La Rosa, a Cuban citizen on a work visa, in Florida after evidence linked him to a March pipeline explosion and oil theft, and he now faces a first-degree felony charge for organized criminal activity while held at Reeves County Jail. CBS7
- ➤ On May 21, Ector County ISD reported that during a prekindergarten graduation at Murry Fly Elementary a parent refused to leave the designated area, charged at the principal, and hit a police officer while defying repeated orders, and now faces charges for criminal trespass, resisting arrest, and assaulting a peace officer. - ➤ College graduates are warned about rising employment scams that target new job seekers with fake offers promising high pay and using poor grammar. Experts from the Better Business Bureau and UTPB advise students to verify company details before sharing personal information (like bank details) and to research employers online (using Google reviews or the BBB website) to avoid fraud. The campaign is underway from May 19 through June 1 and will ticket drivers who do not buckle up or secure children properly+ the effort aims to reduce fatalities on Texas roads. Odessa American
- ➤ Odessa Police Department held a news conference on May 21 urging parents and students to choose safe celebrations this weekend; officials promoted Project Graduation—an alcohol and drug-free party at Urban Air for Permian and Odessa high school seniors.
