  • Westlake Ace Hardware is teaming with The Salvation Army in an annual Fan Drive that runs until June 7 to provide box fans to help families stay cool, as customers can round up their purchases—all funds will support local fan distribution.  CBS7

CRIME NEWS

  • Law enforcement will monitor underage drinking parties and drug use from May 22 to May 25 as teams from Odessa Police, ECISD, ECHD, UTPB and the Ector County Sheriff’s Office target social host, MIP and minor consumption violations — tips that lead to arrests may earn cash rewards — according to a release.  CBS7
  • Odessa authorities are asking for help to locate Xavier Gallardo, who is wanted on 15 active Class C misdemeanor warrants for offenses including speeding, driving without a valid license, and minor possession issues—any information should be reported to Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-8477.  CBS7

  • The Click It or Ticket Campaign began and will run until June 1 as the Odessa Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and local agencies work together to enforce seat belt laws—this effort aims to boost safety during the busy summer driving season starting Memorial Day weekend.  Odessa American
  • State Rep. Brooks Landgraf from Odessa said Senate Bill 4 passed in the Texas House to boost the school district homestead exemption from $100,000 to $140,000 and help Texas taxpayers keep more of their money while ensuring public schools do not lose funding. It is expected to receive final House approval tomorrow and will take effect in the 2025 tax year (pending a November ballot vote).  Odessa American
  • Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez was honored at the Texas Department of Public Safety Peace Officers Memorial Service in Austin today. The 25-year-old officer died investigating a traffic accident on SH 302 near Notrees last fall — a bill has since passed to name that stretch of highway in his memory.  CBS7
  • The Odessa Police Department reminded golf cart and off-highway vehicle operators to follow state and local rules for safe road use — golf cart drivers must have a valid license, live within two miles of a golf course, and correctly equip their carts while OHV drivers must stop before crossing and use illuminated lights to avoid citations.  Odessa American
