  • Texas oil and gas regulator Wayne Christian stated Thursday that the Permian Basin — the backbone of the state’s energy industry — powered record energy output with a 3% annual boost in crude production, reinforcing that state policies support national energy independence.   • UTPB is set to host diverse summer camps for kids, with programs in sports, science, and makers starting May 30 and lasting through early July on campus in Odessa (age ranges, fees, and sessions vary by camp).  Odessa American
  • On Thursday, May 14, Ector County ISD distributed $6.3 million in Teacher Incentive Allotment funds to 532 teachers from 42 schools; a press conference at Sam Houston Elementary honored 9 awardees, including a teacher who received over $20,500 — a big check day that rewards their dedication.  Odessa American

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, Permian Basin high school athletes competed at the State Track & Field meet held at the Mike A. Myers Track (Austin). In Class 4A, six athletes and three relay teams raced while in Class 3A, Odessa Compass’ Caleb Stout finished 7th in the 400m.  NewsWest9
  • Odessa College Lady Wranglers reached 50 wins with an eight to two semifinal win against McLennan Community College in the Southwest District A Championship, powered by three home runs and strong pitching; they will face Weatherford College today in the finals to advance to the NJCAA D1 Softball World Series.  NewsWest9
