- ➤ On May 1 at around 9:28 p.m., Odessa Police officers responded near W Clements Street and S Alleghaney Avenue where they found a 59-year-old man dead from a hit-and-run and have made no arrests so far. CBS7
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Permian High School’s Black Magic will perform Movie Magic at The Ector Theatre at 7 p.m. on May 8 and 9 using skits, live musicians, and songs chosen by the 20-member group. The students have been preparing since January (tickets are available online) and look forward to a show that spans different movie eras. Odessa American

- ➤ Rusty Dunn, a native of Odessa who owned a Chick-fil-A franchise for 20 years, has taken the role of Development Coordinator at UTPB after working in Midland and Dallas. He said his new role will involve fundraising—leading capital campaign projects, scholarships and endowments—to support students and the community. Odessa American
- ➤ Ector County ISD administrators and a board member surprised educators during an assembly on May 2 at LBJ Elementary and Bonham Middle Schools. Elementary Teacher of the Year Patrick Flores, Secondary Teacher of the Year Carlos Rabaneba, Paraprofessional of the Year Anna McMeans and Counselor of the Year Pete Mauro were honored—teachers received $1,000 while the paraprofessional and counselor got $500 from the Education Foundation. - ➤ First Alert 7 is covering local Midland County election results today — the report will include updates on Propositions A-D and school district tax rate elections. CBS7
- ➤ Today, voters in Midland County will cast ballots from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 15 locations on three bond issues — one for new campus facilities at Midland College, one for a clean water treatment facility by MCUD, and a $325 million bond by Odessa College, with Ector County residents also voting on a proposed emergency services district tax change. - ➤ The Planning and Zoning Commission met on May 2 to review a proposed zoning amendment about mobile and manufactured homes. The board voted 6 to 1 to advise city council not to move forward with the amendment — and 6 to 1 to recommend tabling a decision on compliance with State Law 1201.008. CBS7

- ➤ The CDC confirmed 935 measles cases nationwide, with Texas accounting for 683 cases in 29 counties—mostly in West Texas where low vaccination rates prevail.
