Brooks Landgraf of Odessa voted for House Bill 2 on April 17, a measure that passed the Texas House and gives a historic $7.7 billion boost to public schools — with more teacher pay and stronger support for rural districts. The law ties funding increases to property values and ensures no district loses money if enrollment drops. Odessa American
- ➤ The Odessa College Board of Trustees approved a three-year pilot project to provide free legal aid to OC students in a partnership with ARAG and Ascendium that covers issues like landlord disputes, traffic matters, and family law. - ➤ Odessa residents gathered at Elegante Hotel on April 17th to meet the top three finalists for the new city manager in an interactive town hall where each candidate answered questions in 15-minute sessions — city officials said a final decision may come as soon as next week’s City Council meeting. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Well Owner Network will host private water well screenings to test drinking water safety in the Permian Basin. The screenings will begin in Ector and Midland County Monday, April 21st at 8:30 a.m.—residents will pay $15 per sample to check for contaminants like E. coli, nitrate-nitrogen, total coliform bacteria, arsenic and salinity.
