  • The bulletin lists several local updates — PAL Registration is scheduled for this Saturday with raffle tickets available and past events such as the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run and City Manager Forum were reported.   • Grand Companions has planned pet adoption events in Midland and Odessa; residents can visit a Kendra Scott store at 2900 W Loop 250 on Saturday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to meet adoptable pets. They will also be at Petco at 6209 TX-191 on Sunday, April 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—with more events at Midland Downtown Farmers Market on April 26 from 8 a.m. to noon and a Hike with a Homeless Pet at Sibley Nature Center on May 1 from 9 to 10 a.m.  Odessa American

  • Trent Day, Aghorn Operations Inc. and Kodiak Roustabout Inc. entered plea deals in connection with the 2019 H₂S gas exposure death of an Odessa couple — the deals settle longstanding legal charges and end further court proceedings.  NewsWest9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At its April 15 meeting, the Ector County ISD Board of Trustees discussed next year’s budget scenarios and named Lauren Tavarez as chief technology officer and Mauricio Marquez as chief schools officer. CFO Deborah Ottmers said that if House Bill 2 passes, the district’s revenue may increase by $21.4 million and several bond program projects—such as the JROTC facility and a career and technical center—will begin in the coming months.  Odessa American

  • State lawmakers introduced Senate Bills 388 and 819 to change energy market rules, and Pablo Vegas, head of ERCOT, warned that these changes could hurt the grid’s ability to meet growing demand as Texas grows. Both bills have passed the Senate and now await House approval and Gov. Abbott’s signature.  Odessa American
  • OPD will host a Neighborhood Watch meeting focused on alcohol abuse awareness Tuesday, April 29th at 6 p.m. at the OPD Training Facility at 210 N. Lincoln — the Permian Basin Regional Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse will lead the discussion.  City of Odessa
  • Residents say that dumpsters in neighborhood alleys are being filled with commercial waste—tires, furniture, and appliances take up space meant for household trash. City officials plan to study the issue and may offer bulk pick-ups and education to help stop the problem.  CBS7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health officials said an 8 year old girl died from measles complications on April 3 and her death was reported according to state rules, but vaccine critic Dr Robert Malone leaked details before her funeral—he claimed she died from sepsis due to other illnesses. Officials added that the conflicting messages are confusing parents as local vaccination efforts continue.  Odessa American
  • The Ector County Health Department reported measles exposures during infectious periods. The exposures occurred on April 5th at Sam’s Club at 4230 John Ben Shepperd Parkway and at Kohl’s at 6209B TX-191 WB — and on April 6th at HEB at 2501 W. University Blvd in Odessa.  Odessa American
