Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 14th of April.
Good morning, Odessa.
On the weekend, VFW Post 4372 hosted the first Military Rodeo Cowboys Association event at the Ector County Coliseum where active-duty military and veterans competed in bull riding, team roping, calf riding and chute dogging.
The event—featuring world champions and offering a path to qualify for the world finals in Arizona—raised funds to help veterans facing financial hardship.
Fiona, a 9-week-old kitten, is available for adoption at the no-kill Humane Society of Odessa at 2230 W.
Sycamore—adoption fees start at $75 and all adoptions require a spay/neuter contract.
Grand Companions announced its Pet of the Week with two-month-old Golden Retriever/Shepherd mixes Yarrow and Cedar—siblings that can be adopted separately.
Both puppies are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered, and local families are invited to give them a loving home.
Jagger, an 8-week-old male shepherd mix, is ready for adoption at the Odessa Humane Society.
Residents can visit the shelter (2230 W. Sycamore) to meet this no-kill pet and complete the adoption application.
Master Gardeners have noted that Mealy Blue Sage is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial that thrives in full sun with little water—drawing bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its long blooming blue-purple spikes.
Texas horticulturist Greg Grant discovered the plant in a local cemetery, and a white variety offers gardeners a striking contrast.
