  • Odessa’s Got Talent will host its live finals on June 7 at the Ector Theatre to raise funds for the Ector County Mission Center, with finalists announced on April 30 and auditions open online until April 21. Audience members can vote for the People’s Choice Award while winners in each category receive up to $9,000 and the People’s Choice winner earns an extra $1,000.  Odessa American
  • Today, the Odessa Police Department and Ector County Sheriff’s Office host Fresh Baked Bread with Badges at Texas Roadhouse on N. Grandview while Midland law enforcement holds a similar event on Loop 250 N.—Raffle tickets will be sold with the drawing on May 2 to fund new equipment for law enforcement.  City of Odessa

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A deadly train collision occurred in Penwell at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday when a Union Pacific train hit a pickup truck stuck at the Ave G crossing—causing the truck to catch fire while the train did not derail.  CBS7

  • On April 9th, 15 Chick-fil-A employees at the University Boulevard and 42nd Street location received a $2,500 scholarship each—totaling $37,500 to help cover college costs. The annual award requires a rigorous application process with essays and recommendations to qualify for the program.  CBS7

  • An unknown male stole about $250 of merchandise from Lowe's Home Improvement, and anyone who recognizes the suspect in the surveillance footage is asked to call Detective M. Troglin (432-284-2012) or Odessa Crime Stoppers (432-333-TIPS) and mention Case #25-9000274.  Odessa American

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTPB President Sandra Woodley presented the university's future vision at the State of the University event at the Odessa Country Club yesterday, noting a 39% increase in graduates since 2016 and that 24% of local jobs depend on UTPB alumni. She added that plans include campus improvements—such as a new innovation center and scholarship goals—to boost applied research and workforce readiness in the community.  Odessa American
  • Today, TTUHSC Permian Basin Library celebrates National Library Week by hosting the Ector & Midland County Book Mobiles from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the north parking lot at 800 W.
