  • A juvenile sustained life-threatening injuries after a shooting — the incident occurred in the 1000 block of W. Monahans on Monday afternoon in Odessa.  NewsWest9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Odessa College opened its 2025 Student Art Show at Phillips Goff Gallery in the Sedate Building on campus on April 7, and the exhibit will run until May 1 showcasing works by OC student artists. The college will host a free reception and awards ceremony today at 4 p.m. where the public can meet the artists and faculty.  Odessa American
  • West Texas Symphony will perform with local high school and UTPB students at 7:30 p.m. April 12 at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature The Polovtsian Dances by Borodin and The Rite of Spring while organizers prepare students with rehearsals to help them gain experience playing with a professional orchestra.  Odessa American

  • Goliad Elementary School honored Assistant Principal Samantha Natividad-Ramos on Monday for winning the TEPSA Region 18 Assistant Principal of the Year Award as students, teachers and staff filled the auditorium and the Odessa High School Mariachis paid tribute. Natividad-Ramos, who has worked 15 years in Ector County ISD, said she works in education to help students feel confident — a goal that guides her every day.  Odessa American
  • Celeste Potter, executive director of the Education Foundation of Odessa, was one of 21 national recipients to earn Certification as an Education Leader at the ImpactED ’25 conference in Knoxville, Tenn. The program tests skills in six areas and confirms her role in guiding local education efforts — a milestone for the foundation.  Odessa American

  • At today's city council meeting, councilman Eddie Mitchell will propose naming a section of Murphy Street after Martin Luther King as he argues that every major city honors the civil rights leader. Officials will also discuss plans to address trash issues, replace a sewer line, update park signs, and request grants for police and fire department equipment.  Odessa American
