On April 4th, volunteers from the Stelter Initiative held a cleanup at Hwy 158 and Intersection 1379 near Jake’s Clays, where they removed trash from a Midland homeless encampment and cleared another area south of Odessa.

The volunteer group led by Keith Stelter continues to seek help with waste disposal costs — funding is needed to support future cleanups.

West Texas Master Gardeners told local gardeners that April is a key month to add compost — which improves dry, compact soil—and plant warm-season vegetables like peppers, squash, cucumbers, beans and okra.

They advised mulching to keep moisture in and handpicking pests — steps that protect plants naturally and help gardens thrive.

An 8-year-old girl died from measles on Thursday morning in Seminole—she became the second death amid an outbreak that has infected nearly 500 Texans since January.

Her funeral was held Sunday and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was expected to visit the town.
