GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Odessa City Council approved additional work and repairs to the water treatment plant today—green-lighting the purchase of a Venturi for the facility.  NewsWest9
  • Odessa City Council advanced plans that will simplify the food truck licensing process (only 11 permits were approved from 200 applicants under a 14-page process) and narrowed the city manager search to six candidates with in-person interviews scheduled before a final decision by June 1. City officials also will host summer events such as a Fourth of July parade and First Friday gatherings to boost downtown revitalization.  CBS7
  • State Reps. Tom Craddick and Brooks Landgraf introduced bills that would direct 10% of oil and gas taxes to 32 counties for fixing roads, emergency services, health care and job training — a plan meant to ease damage from heavy truck traffic and rising oil activity. If passed, the bills will go to Gov. Greg Abbott and then to Texas voters in the fall — steps that may bring quicker repairs and extra funds for essential services — as local towns work to recover from the oil boom.  Odessa American
  • On Tuesday, Ector County commissioners discussed road safety while planning a budget for an in-house paver to modify roads. They aim to invest over $2 million in equipment — studies of daily traffic and crash reports will guide improvements to lower fatal crashes from over 40 in 2023 to zero.  NewsWest9
